About the Artwork
These original micrography (micro-writing) artworks by Aaron Poris focus on repeating blessings and other mantras until a final shape, design, or texture is achieved. Poris’ work largely centers around the motif of the ‘Hamsa’ – inside which is a blessing for the home written in cursive Hebrew (translation below).
The ‘Hamsa’ or ‘Hamesh’ (חמסה in Hebrew, خمسة in Arabic) meaning “Five”, derives its name from the number of its fingers, and is believed to be the hand of God. Its origins are thought to be somewhere in the Middle East/Asia, and it remains one of the oldest cross-cultural, pan-religious symbols in recorded history.
A typical Hamsa depicts a hand, often with either the thumb, pinky, or both pointing outward. An eye is also commonly found in the palm, representing the “Evil Eye” against which the hand of God protects.
In its simplest terms – the Hamsa serves as a good luck charm and is a perfect addition to any home.
